NTT’s Global Data Centers awarded for supporting veterans in the workforce
22 May 2023
SACRAMENTO, California – NTT’s Global Data Centers in the Americas has won the 2023 Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Midsize Employer of the Year Award, with the not-for-profit organization highlighting our “noteworthy efforts in hiring, supporting and developing veteran talent in the workforce”.
Furthermore, we have been designated a DAV Patriot Employer for aligning with DAV’s mission: to ensure that all veterans, especially disabled veterans, secure meaningful employment.
This also makes us eligible to be named DAV Patriot Employer of the Year at the DAV National Convention on 6 August 2023 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
To earn the Patriot Employer designation, we were evaluated on the strength of our recruitment, hiring, retention and career-building policies for veteran employees – including disabled veterans and active-duty employees – as well as our community outreach initiatives and support for veterans in the communities where we operate.
This is the second time that we are being formally recognized for our collective efforts in veteran hiring, retention and career development: the US Department of Labor awarded us the HIRE Vets Medallion Award Gold Level in November 2022.
A source of pride
We are proud that more than 24% of our US workforce identify as veterans, and we engage in robust recruitment practices to engage with job candidates who are or have been in military service.
Ben Stewart, Senior Vice President: Operations at NTT’s Global Data Centers Americas and executive sponsor of the Veteran Employee Resource Group, says: “The leadership and cross-departmental cooperative skills acquired by veterans who have operated in a highly diverse military environment map precisely to our core principles.
“In partnership with DAV, we endeavor to grow our already large veteran employee base in our quest to achieve operational excellence in a highly competitive industry.”
He says recognition as a Patriot Employer is a source of pride to our current veteran employees, which strengthens our retention efforts. It also supports our recruitment efforts by serving as a beacon for guiding veterans to a challenging and rewarding career.
Mike Kinsey, Veteran Employee Resource Group Co-chair at NTT’s Global Data Centers, Americas, says: “Beyond my being proud to partner with a great organization that makes a positive difference in veterans’ lives every day, I am equally proud of the recognition that DAV provided us with an award that reflects just how veteran-friendly NTT is.”
DAV helps more than 1 million veterans every year, offering services at no cost to all generations of veterans, their families and survivors. In 2021, they provided more than 163,000 rides to veterans attending medical appointments and counseled 290,854 veteran claimants with over 151,000 benefit claims. Last year, they helped veterans receive more than USD 25 billion in earned benefits.
