NTT DATA Expands Network Data Center Platform in Indonesia
New data center expansion in Jakarta to meet the requirements of hyperscalers and enterprises to accelerate the digital economy in the country.
Indonesia – 15th May 2024 – NTT DATA, a trusted global innovator of business and technology services, today announced that its Global Data Centers division is constructing a Jakarta 2 Annex Data Center (JKT2A) in Indonesia, set for completion in early 2026. As part of the company's larger Jakarta 2 campus, JKT2A is designed to meet the needs of hyperscalers and enterprise to support the growing digital economy in Indonesia.
The addition is part of NTT DATA's over $10 billion investment in data center growth projected for 2023-2027 in key markets across the globe.
The JKT2A Data Center will support a planned capacity of 12MW of critical IT load and is located in central Jakarta, approximately 20km from Soekarno Hatto International Airport. The seven-story JKT2A facility incorporates air-cooling systems, robust physical security measures, and multiple redundant power sources to ensure maximum uptime and reliability. The JKT2 campus boasts a huge network with connections to more than 150 telcos, internet service providers, and fiber optic providers, and houses major cloud edges and financial services, including digital payment gateways. It notably has multiple direct fiber connections to the larger Jakarta 3 Data Center in Bekasi, a suburb of Jakarta. The data center campus will have 100% renewable energy options for its clients, aligned with achieving NTT DATA's net-zero emissions target for its own operations, including sourcing 100% renewable energy by 2030.
"The launch of the new JKT2A underscores our leadership position in the country, as we grow our global data center footprint to meet the increasing demand," said Doug Adams, CEO and President, Global Data Centers, NTT DATA. "We are ready to provide our clients with the flexible facility designs required to enable them to achieve their business objectives. As part of this, we are committed to delivering critical data capacity that supports the digital economy in Indonesia."
This development expands NTT DATA's presence in Jakarta, complementing its existing JKT2 and JKT3 campuses. The country, which has the largest population in Southeast Asia, has experienced a significant surge in digital traffic due to the rise in start-ups, electronic transactions, and digital content consumption, emerging into one of the fastest-growing markets in the region for data center space provision. NTT's Global Data Centers currently operates more than 17 data centers in seven countries in the Asia-Pacific region, with more than 278MW of critical IT load and +60MW in planned expansion. It is the second largest data center provider in Jakarta.
"The launch of Jakarta 2 Annex Data Center is a significant step towards meeting the growing demands of our clients as they deploy next generation AI solutions and expand interconnectivity throughout the region," said Yasuhiro Kajiki, President Director, Global Data Centers, Indonesia, NTT DATA and PT NTT Indonesia. "With the delivery of this new data center capacity, we meet immediate needs while laying the foundation for future technological advancements and innovation. This initiative aligns with our commitment to foster a robust digitalization in Indonesia, and supporting economic growth, innovation and connectivity."
From a network hub perspective, JKT2A will host multiple networks such as NTT's Global IP Network (GIN), JKT-IX, which provides the greatest Internet exchange in Indonesia, APRICOT Submarine Cable, and direct connect with major public cloud services. Offering a carrier-neutral policy, clients can receive benefits from multiple network services. Furthermore, the network environment enables clients to choose full ICT stack services including managed hybrid cloud, network management, and collaboration.
Global Data Centers, a division of NTT DATA, operates one of the largest data center platforms in the world with more 150 data centers in over 20 countries and markets. As part of its ongoing growth strategy, the company recently announced the development of two new data center campuses in Europe, in Paris and Berlin; and launched new data centers in Noida and Chennai in India.
